The Artist: Raúl Hott (Chile)

Raul Hott (Santiago, Chile, 1984) is an artist, architect and cultural producer whose work revolves around the body. Raúl possesses an MFA in New Forms from the Pratt Institute, where he gave classes during 2012-13 along with Lisa Bateman. Hott designed collective experiences for public spaces and natural environments. Their projects use sound, music and dance to activate each experience. Projects like The Open Body and Birders have strongly drawn in the public, characterized by a multicultural audience.  Since 2016, Hott has been part of the group of artists Bank of No that has developed political actions at Laiki Bank Nicosia in Cyprus, after being shut down by the financial crisis in Greece.  Artists coming from dance, theatre, music production and graphic design have participated in their projects.  His work has been exhibited in Point Centre for Contemporary Art, Mykonos Biennale, Art in Odd Places Festival, Trestle Gallery, Ed. Varie Gallery, Blackburn 20/20 Gallery, Toronto Design Offsite Festival, Governors Island Art Fair and Brooklyn Zen Center, among others.

The Artwork: The Union

The Union is a celebration, a social dance and an experience in different public spaces in the capital. For two hours, a group of DJs, musicians, artists and actors will make the public dance. Through free dancing, alone or in groups, a union is produced, and for a moment we forget all division, and we celebrate difference and diversity. In The Union we connect with each other, we feel part of an identity and one greater community.
